First, heat 1 tbsp oil in a saucepan, and cook ¾ cup chopped onion and garlic in it. Add in bay leaf, basil, tomato sauce, fennel seed, oregano, pepper, and sugar. Bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat to medium-low, let it simmer for about 35 – 40 minutes, uncovered. After the mixture is cooked, discard the bay leaf.
Now, take a large bowl and mix yeast, salt, and ¼ – 1 cup flour in it. Stir in 2 tbsp oil, along with warm water, and beat with the help of an electric mixer at low speed for about 30 seconds. Scrape off the bowl, and add in the remaining flour, beat further for 3 minutes. Put the flour on a lightly-floured surface and knead it. Make a stiff but elastic ball. In a large pan, cook sausage and ground beef, along with chopped onion, until the onion is tender and the meat is brown. Remove the excess grease. Now, spread pizza sauce over the baked crust and add the beef mixture. Top with Canadian-style bacon, pepperoni, and sweet pepper. Sprinkle cheese generously. Bake for another 10 – 12 minutes, until the cheese melts completely.
