Whether it’s a fraternity date function, or a backyard BBQ gathering at a friend’s place, toga parties are an amazing place to meet new people and have some fun. Being one of the oldest party theme traditions, and a favorite among people of different ages, it’s essential that you dress the part.
So, in order to get ready for the party, you’re going to need the right accessories. First things first―ditch the bed sheet and head over to a departmental store to purchase some fabric. For the following costumes, you will need at least 4 – 6 yards of material, depending on your height and weight.
How to Tie a Toga for Men
In the following section, you will find 2 simple and quick ways to wear toga. Even though this section caters to men, women too can pull off these costumes.
1. Around the Back
Step 1 – Hold the fabric behind you, hold an end with one hand and drape the rest from behind, and over your left shoulder. Make sure the other end of the fabric is long enough to reach your waist.
Step 2 – Hold the long end of the fabric, bring it in the front from under your right arm. Make sure that the fabric doesn’t slip off your left shoulder.
Step 3 – From across your chest, bring the fabric over your left shoulder. Use a safety pin to secure the fabric on your shoulder.
Step 4 – Adjust the height of your toga, and smooth the layers and folds as well. Use another safety pin to secure the first end of the fabric.
2. Around the Front
Step 1 – Stand and hold the fabric horizontally in front of you. Fold it once, width-wise, so that both ends meet.
Step 2 – Drape the fabric around your waist and leave at least a feet of extra fabric loose on one side; tuck a small section behind your back.
Step 3 – Take the second end and drape it around the front; use a safety pin to secure the two ends near your waist.
Step 4 – Keep draping the fabric behind-first under right arm, and coming out from under the left arm.
Step 5 – Finally, drape the end across your chest and bring it over your right shoulder. Secure the toga with a safety pin.
How to Tie a Toga for Women
In 4 – 5 quick steps, you can get ready for a toga party. Just remember to include accessories to your outfit to give it that extra oomph.
1. Strapless Toga
Step 1 – Stand and hold the fabric horizontally in front of you. Fold it once, width-wise, so that both ends meet.
Step 2 – Keeping the fabric horizontal, drape it on like you would with a towel to cover yourself properly.
Step 3 – Smooth the layers and the folds, and use a safety pin to secure the toga.
Step 4 – Wear a leather belt or rope so that the toga stays put for the entire night.
2. Halter-neck Toga
Step 1 – Stand and hold the fabric horizontally in front of you. Fold it once, width-wise, so that both ends meet.
Step 2 – Wrap the folded fabric horizontally around your chest like a towel. However, leave at least 3 – 4 feet of fabric loose at one corner.
Step 3 – To make a halter neck, twist the extra fabric and drape it around your shoulder. Either use a safety pin or tie a knot with the other end of the fabric.
Step 4 – Smooth the layers and folds of the toga, and use a pin to secure the fabric onto your top.
Now that you have 4 ways to tie a toga with a sheet-2 for men and 2 for women―you can concentrate on reaching the party on time and have a blast. But before you head out the door, don’t forget adding accessories to your outfit like gold or fake leaves’ crown, sandals, belt, sword, or a gold chain.
